2013 MAMA: G-Dragon, EXO, Cho Yong Pil bag top awards

Big Bang leader G-Dragon emerged as the biggest winner while Cho Yong Pil and EXO took home major awards at the 2013 Mnet Asian Music Awards (MAMA) held in Hong Kong last night.
K-pop’s biggest names including pop star Rain, Girls’ Generation, Big Bang and Infinite together with international celebrities Stevie Wonder, Paris Hilton, Icona Pop and Kong Kong’s Aaron Kwok gathered at the AsiaWorld-Arena to honor outstanding artists in music.
G-Dragon took home the BC-UnionPay Artist of the Year award, one of the three top awards of the night. He also won the Nissan Juke Best Music Video for “Coup d’etat,” Best Dance Peformance-Male Solo for “Crooked” and Best Male Artist.
“It was a crazy show tonight. But I loved it! Great job everyone and we all need some rest! Music makes one!” G-Dragon tweeted after getting the awards.
Veteran singer Cho Yong Pil bagged the BC-UnionPay Song of the Year for “Bounce,” a track from his 19th album “Hello.”
Twelve-member boy band EXO further cemented their status as one of today’s most popular groups in K-pop when they won the BC-UnionPay Album of the Year for “XOXO,” their first studio album.

2NE1′s CL won the Best Dance Performance-Female Solo while SISTAR won in the same category for Female Group. SHINee won the Best Dance Performance-Male Group.
Girls’ Generation scooped the Best Female Group award and Infinite won the Best Male Group and Sony MDR World Wide Performer.
Lee Hyori won the Best Female Artist while Lee Seung Chul grabbed the Best Concert Performer award.
The Best Asian Artists were also recognized. Aaron Kwok won for China, Derrick Hoh for Singapore, Thu Minh for Vietnam, Tor Saksit for Thailand, SM*SH for Indonesia, Kyary Pamyu Pamyu for Japan. No artists from the Philippines and Malaysia were recognized.
The 2013 MAMA also showcased performances and collaborations. Stevie Wonder, who took home the Music Makes One Global Ambassador Award, which was presented by Big Bang, sang “I Just Called to Say I Love You” together with SISTAR’s Hyorin and Kwok.

Pop star Rain performed “How to Avoid the Sun,” “It’s Raining” and “Hip Song,” and Trouble Maker, composed of 4Minute’s Hyuna and BEAST’s Hyeungsung, sang “Now.”
Girl group Crayon Pop collaborated with Norwegian comic duo and YouTube sensation Ylvis in a number. Crayon Pop took home the Best New Female Artist while Ylvis won the International Favorite Artist.
Big Bang performed “Fantastic Baby,” EXO sang “Wolf” and “Growl” and Infinite performed “Destiny” and “BTD.”
